Chris Hooper’s career started in the fitness industry of all places. It was here he learned the ins and outs of small-business. After struggling to get his head around the idea of bookkeeping, GST and tax, he concluded numbers side of business needed some improvement.
Chris Hooper’s education started at The South Australian Institute of Business and Technology where he was awarded a Diploma of Business. Since then he has gone on to obtain a Bachelor of Commerce from The University of South Australia majoring in Accounting and a minoring in Applied Finance. He received his Graduate Diploma in Chartered Accounting with the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia. A forever student, he then went on to complete a Diploma of Management through the Australian Institute of Management as part of the Young Business Leaders Program. He has now completed his MBA at UniSA where he where he also taught accounting for two years.
During his university studies, he took a job at a mid-tier accounting firm in Adelaide. He would spend two years in business advisory, providing full-service administration and compliance services to his clients. His passion for investment markets would take him into a superannuation specialty. It was in this role that he working in the areas of compliance and administration and advice for self-managed superannuation funds.
Chris was one of the youngest members appointed to the Australian Institute of Company Directors off the back of his previous board position on South Australian Council of Social Services: Youth Business Roundtable committee. He was one of the co-founders of The Startup Club and also held an executive treasury board position within the SAUCNA Inc for four years. Following was a two-year stint as Executive Director of Startup Adelaide Inc, a not for profit industry group for local entrepreneurs. He has since resigned from all other positions to focus on Accodex.
He is also a regular on the speakers circuit with recent appearances at Pecha Kucha, AIESEC, TEDx, GoldenKey, XeroCon
He was featured in the Anthill 30 Under 30 list and a finalist for 2013’s Young Achievers Award. His story was featured in the coffee table book BBQ to Boardroom which showcases the stories of some of Adelaide’s most successful businessmen. In 2013, he was nominated for the Young Achievers Small Business Award and won the Achievement Award in the Young Business Leaders Program. In 2015, he was ranked one of the top 30 Managers under 30, and went on to win state manager of the year.
After three years in the advisory division of Cirillo Hooper & Company, Chris was appointed CEO of Accodex in January 2015.
