The eldest of two children, Claudine was born and raised in Montreal, Canada and moved to South Florida at the age of 15. As the only daughter of Haitian immigrants, she quickly learned the importance of setting a great example. This is a trait she carries in her work ethics.
Always fun-loving and eager to learn, Claudine enjoyed a beautiful childhood, closely following her mother through her many accomplishments. For developing business acumen, she credits the family matriarch who taught her to have financial discipline. After leaving her native land in search of a better life, Claudine’s mother built a lucrative career as a registered nurse, creating wealth and security for her family. Claudine knew she had to do the same.
While at the university, Claudine worked as a cashier in the leading grocery store in Florida, a relay agent for the deaf and a clerk for a payroll company. After graduating from the School of Accounting at Florida International University, she landed the first position of her career at a small commercial property management firm in Miami Beach. In this role, she learned every administrative function of an accounting department, from setting up leasing in the accounting software and issuing tenant rent statements to completing partnership tax returns. Claudine is extremely grateful for this experience as it shaped her into the businessperson she is today for this experience. Shortly after, she completed her studies in Finance, obtaining a BBA and MBA with a concentration on the subject.
Many describe Claudine as a non-traditional accountant. Practitioners of accountancy as individuals should understand how to relate to other human beings. Therefore, she believes to completely provide value to clients, accountants must have compassion, be mentally sound and most importantly be happy. She sees no reason for one to adhere to a mandatory 9 to 5, Monday through Friday schedule to fully be of service. This is a concept she found to be lacking in many environments throughout Corporate America.
She seized the opportunity to work on her terms when a renown commercial real firm in Atlanta eliminated her Senior Accountant position during the 2011 recession. Her first solo assignment was to complete the annual CAM reconciliation for the owner of a large retail parcel. Because she left a lasting impression, the proprietor requested Claudine to return the following year to repeat the reconciliation. From there, she chose to focus her practice in consulting for firms and investors in the commercial real estate industry advising on streamlining processes for CAM reconciliations and lease abstracting, setting up property accounting in industry-specific software and following through month-end cycles. Claudine is also very knowledgeable with various functions of Yardi, a property management program, and often assists with resolving helpdesk issues with this software.
With more than 15 years of experience in commercial real estate, at Accodex, Claudine assists commercial property owners and real estate investors to raise the value of their properties with an array of property management accounting and lease management services tailored to their specific needs. Also providing general accounting services, she guides small business owners and individuals transitioning into the world entrepreneurship.
